چکیده

In order to segment nucleus and cytoplasm of single cervical cell in the semear images accurately, a novel Gradient Vector Field (GVF) Snake is proposed by improving edge map of GVF Snake (PGVF) to enhance the capacity of the active contour model of gradient vector field to locate the boundary of nuclei and cytoplasmic. In our method, the image is converted into polar coordinates and the Sobel operator is used to calculate horizontal boundary, and then Sand Inhibition Method is designed to inhibite the influence of interference elements on boundary location, and finally cervical cells are segmented with GVF. At the end, experiments performed on the Herlev dataset, which contains 917 images show it is more efficiency of the proposed algorithm than RGVF and nearly same accuracy.

Automatic Initialization Active Contour Model for the Segmentation of the Chest Wall on Chest CT

OBJECTIVES Snake or active contours are extensively used in computer vision and medical image processing applications, and particularly to locate object boundaries. Yet problems associated with initialization and the poor convergence to boundary concavities have limited their utility. The new method of external force for active contours, which is called gradient vector flow (GVF), was recently ...

New Methods for Image De-noising and Edge Enhancement in Cervical Smear Images Segmentation

The segmentation of cytoplast and nucleus from a cervical cell image is one of important techniques for automatically detecting abnormal cervical cells. Noise on an image often makes segmentation inaccurate. This paper presents two new techniques, named trimming-mean filter and bi-grouping enhancer, to effectively eliminate noise and make the object boundaries more discernible. In this paper, t...

A Hybrid Segmentation Model based on Watershed and Gradient Vector Flow for the Detection of Brain Tumor

Medical Image segmentation deals with segmentation of tumor in CT and MR images for improved quality in medical diagnosis. Geometric Vector Flow (GVF) enhances the concave object extraction capability. However, it suffers from high computational requirement and sensitiveness to noise. This paper intends to combine watershed algorithm with GVF snake model to reduce the computational complexity, ...

Accurate Localization of Cell Nuclei in PAP Smear Images using Gradient Vector Flow Deformable Models

In this work, we present an automated method for the detection of cells nuclei boundaries in conventional PAP stained cervical smear images. The proposed method consists of three phases: a) the definition of candidate nuclei centroids set using mathematical morphology, b) the initial approximation of cells nuclei boundaries and c) the application of the Gradient Vector Flow (GVF) snakes for the...

An Improved Algorithm Based on the GVF-Snake for Effective Concavity Edge Detection

Image segmentation is an important research area in Computer Vision and the GVF-snake is an effective segmentation algorithm presented in recent years. Traditional GVF-snake algorithm has a large capture range and can deal with boundary concavities. However, when interesting object has deep concavities, traditional GVF-snake algorithm can’t converge to true boundaries exactly. In this paper, a ...
